“COMELEC duwag, COMELEC duwag” was the chant at the COMELEC protest held today, May 10, 2022.
As the unofficial and partial vote counts continue to roll out, various organizations and individuals mostly comprised of student youth leaders gathered in front of the Commission on Elections headquarters in Intramuros to protest the alleged and suspicious outcome of the 2022 elections.
Anakbayan, KPL Partylist, League of Filipino Students, SMCPS Student Councils, and other youth student leaders are some of the organizations that joined the protest in the fight against the suspected electoral anomaly.
After yesterday's elections leaving many disenfranchised due to dysfunctional vote-counting machines, suspicions are raised as the COMELEC only took 12 hours to account for approximately 95% of election returns. A banner at the protest saying “ilantad ang malawakang dayaan sa Eleksyon 2022” exemplify the condemnation of the current turnout of votes.
Earlier, Thomasians also gathered at EspaƱa Blvd. to protest the current results of the election. The UST CSC urged fellow Thomasians to join the protest outside COMELEC, and the President-elect of the council, Nathan Agustin, stressed the importance of coming together and standing up alongside other UST students who are also disappointed with the election results.
Meanwhile, students from the University of the Philippines, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, and Ateneo de Manila University, among others, have taken to social media to call for a mass student walk-out.
As of this moment, demonstrators are now marching to Liwasang Bonifacio.
