With the dawn of a new academic year, the UST-Communication Arts Students' Association Halalan '24 takes place with a new roster of candidates contending for their spots in the UST-CASA Executive Board.
To give an in-depth look at this year's 4 EB candidates, a series of interviews were set by CASA Chronicle through the partnership with CASA Electoral Board
Running for the position of Vice President - External is Freshman Mary Grace V. Guillen from Partido KaCASA who dared to defy the CASAn brand up a notch, with her desired leadership brand and approaches for the community.
First Part: General Questions
Can you share some previous projects or other activities that you are involved in that represents your best quality as a student leader and how it can be to your advantage running to this position?
“First event na pumasok sa isip ko is the IMC Quest and yung Broadquest, kasi yung two events na iyon as a chief of staff nga, hirap maghanap ng volunteers in the event. Sobrang hirap rin talagang maghanap kasi I think its prelims week na yun so talaga mahirap maghanap ng volunteers so as a leader kailangan mo mag step up to know and syempre para malaman and makita mo mismo na maayos yung takbo and syempre as a leader nga, you need to step up kasi mahirap syempre if you’re in a group or in a like community mahirap if merong isang mag lalack so with that talagang mas okay if mag ste-step up ka to know and to see kung ano ba yung lack and kung ano pa yung mabibigay mo sa studentry. So in relation to that, if i will be the External Vice President of CASA, I will use that skills like stepping up and also yung knowledge ko when it comes to communicating with other people kasi as an External Vice President, you need to communicate with other people not just in your community and not just in the core, kailangan mo rin siya makipagcommunicate with other organizations and even outside UST. So magagamit ko yung skills ko na yon like communication skills.”
CASA has a current branding of Creativity, Versatility, and Redefined. As a running student council member for the next academic year, what do you think is the implication of these words to the CASAns?
“Creativity, Versatility, and Redefined. So with that, 'yun kasi yung core ng CASANs which is yun yung iuuphold natin hanggang sa mawala tayo--umalis tayo dito sa UST and like kahit na nagtratrabaho na tayo, kasama natin yung core values na yon when it comes to doing our ano our best, ofcourse our work kasi kahit dito sa CASA mismo, Redefining Versatility and Creativity is a must for us kasi lahat naman ng ginagawa natin is nag e-exert tayo ng creativity and versatility, we’re just redefining it.

Third Part: Final Specifiied Questions
What are your plans in terms of promoting and strengthening relationships between the student council and other external organizations?
“Kasama kasi dito yung platform ko which is XP CASA and it is not just like for other organizations kasi with that meron tayong target networks na kasama yung CASAns to connect their skills to their desired networks. So with that kasi with yung pag cocommunicate with other organizations, mas nadedefine 'yun when nagkakaroon talaga ng proper communication with them so for my term, mas papabutihin and like mas aayusin and like mas kokonektahin ko ang mga organizations and CASAns kasi dun din tayo nakakakuha ng mga opportunities para sa atin CASAns.”
Considering that there are no running presidents as of the moment, how do you think will this affect the next academic year and as a running vice president-external, what will be your leadership approach for the CASAn community?
“To be honest, yung for me dahil nga walang tumatakbong president, mahihirapan ang council kasi parang dun kasi magbabase. Hindi naman sa hindi kayang tumayo ng ibang EBs, its just dun kasi makakakuha ng parang base EBs kung pano o ano ba ang dapat gawin talaga. So parang for me, mag li-lie low ang CASA but of course with my co-slate with my slate, we are promising--we are not promising--but if like if manalo man kami, we will do our best and of course we will still do our best and kung ano ang sinimulan dati pa at kung ano ang nangyayari ngayon. Papanatalihin namin siya para lang sa CASANs and my leadership approach will be based on what I feel nung freshie pa ako but kasi nung pumasok ako ng CASA, kaya ako pumasok ng CASA because i feel the warmth of the core and the EBs. Ofcourse dahil nga freshie palang, nakita ko kung gaano sila ka-open sa amin and kung paano nila kami kausapin or like paano nila kami i-aaproach. Sobrang warm ng pagaapproach nila sa amin and pag welcome nila sa amin so with that syempre gusto ko rin mapanatili open yung mga ebs and of course kahit yung core and kahit sinong CASAn gusto ko makita yung openess ng council, and with that, ako mismo yung magsisimula nung sa part na yun.”
