A start of something new!

Soaring and flying with their loudest and proudest energies are 159 CASAn Freshmen who recently took part in this year’s Thomasian Onboarding Activities—the annual Welcome Walk and ROARientation events—last Saturday, August 5.

The mobilization went underway as early as 6:30 AM as CASAns walked their way to the Quadricentennial Pavillion (QPav) while displaying their props and gimmicks in lieu of the program’s theme of Disney’s ‘High School Musical’.

Pioneered by the current Executive Board of UST-CASA, the gimmicks thereof include caps, plaque cards, and lightsticks. Moreover, the incoming Freshmen had created their own props as well ranging from headbands and pompoms to innovative frames representing their blocks.

Before the ROARientation proper, the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist, led by Very Rev. Fr. Richard G. Ang, O.P., commenced, which was dedicated to the guidance of incoming Thomasian Freshmen.

Embarking on a feisty and high-spirited opening number, ROARientation 2023 was then kickstarted by the A.M. session hosts Adrian Clemence Molina, Tatyana Alexi Austria, Louise Elaine Legaspi, Dizelle Masilungan, and, Sophia Buenaventura.

Exhilarating and awe-inspiring performances by the Artistang Artlets and UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe were witnessed by the pool of Freshman audience. Further, students across faculties are also enjoined in the prepared games which are the famously-known Streak! Game, Tomasino, Name It!, and Pera o Bota.

In the latter part of the ROARientation, the UST Yellow Jackets led the Freshies in the execution of the UST cheer and dance routine, which was followed by them vibing and jiving to their batch dance of New Jeans’ hit song ‘Super Shy’.

Wrapping up the onboarding activities was the Freshmen's tradition of entering the Arch of the Centuries. This portion of the events in the AM session was headed by Alia Denise Aguilar and Julian Carl Colilap.

It is to be noted that this Academic Year logs 1,246 freshmen from the Faculty of Arts and Letters alone; 159 of which are from AB in Communication.

Adam Joseph Bolante, a student from 1COM2, describe the environment of the University when asked about his experiences during the on-boarding activities.

‘...In terms of the environment of the campus, so far it’s been nice seeing all of these people. It’s very exciting na I’m finally sa collegiate life and nowhere else, sa UST pa; I expect more good things to come.'

1COM1 Blockmates Adrian Gabriel and Dominique Santos, on the other hand, set their expectations in their upcoming journeys as CASAns.

‘I expect that I’ll feel like I belong here because this is what I wanted from the start.’ Santos emphasized.
‘I expect to not only bond with my block mates but with everyone sa CASA and AB talaga. Also, to hopefully enjoy this event lalo na kasi kakapasok lang namin as a freshman in UST.’ highlighted Gabriel.
