"No Pride For Some of Us Without Liberation For All of Us" - Micah Bazant for Marsha P. Johnson

As the sun gets hotter and the air gets warmer, this month of April, we will be celebrating World Diversity Month. This month, we will be showcasing different authors from all over the world as well as the diverse literature around us. Without further ado, we now present our first author for World Diversity Month: Stefani J. Alvarez

Stefani J. Alvarez is a Filipino trans woman who currently resides in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, and has been an OFW since 2008. Alvarez wrote award-winning pieces namely, Ang Autobiografia ng Ibang Lady Gaga (Visprint, 2015) which depicts the struggles of a queer OFW in Saudi Arabia through a series of short non-fiction prose.

She also wrote a novel titled “Kagay-An: At Isang Pag-ibig sa Panahon ng All-Out War” (Psicom-Literati, 2019) which explores a gay teenager’s journey to self-discovery in a bleak world as he strives to heal his trauma from a father he lost.

These are only a few of Alvarez's writings, which offer not just topics on the LGBT experience but also themes surrounding OFWs, to which many of us can undoubtedly connect, considering the abundance of OFWs across the world. If you're looking for your next new read, maybe try one of Stefani Alvarez's works and support our fellow Filipino.
