World Poetry Day Series 2022 (Day 4, Part 1): The Singularity

Today may be our last day, however, our CASAns' works are still not to be missed! Our first poem for today is written by Gabrielle Lopez of 2COM2. The piece utilizes the imagery of space and the concept of Singularity as the title suggests. It is the power of our minds that grants us limitless possibilities that we ourselves create that can last eternally in our minds. The piece suggests that our mind is its own universe that creates billions upon billions of ideas with just a single thought.

The Singularity
by Gabrielle Lopez

Nothing.
A void of voices
Hushed, unheard yet.
The creatures of imagination
Lurking in shadows of unmade realms.

Flickers.
The glow of waking,
The flash of first realities.
The mind opening its eyes to the light
Of memories and musings.

Noise.
A thousand thoughts collide,
Meteors in my mad mind
That burst and break
To form new galaxies.

Forces.
The gravity of dreams,
Pulling every which way
Across time and space—
The birth of infinity.

Nirvana.
Supernova stillness,
A slowing in the making of stars
Through pages of stories that follow,
Through verses of moments lived.

Freedom.
The art of writing worlds,
Each verse a new version of the universe.
The poetry of thoughts,
Each word an idea freed into infinity.
