Communication alumnus, Ranch M. Ramas, is one of the five finalists in Pride Houston 365’s Logo Competition.
Mr. Ramas, a Houston-based graphic designer and founder of Studio Ranch, secured this achievement for his concept, entitled LIMITLESS: Houston Pride 2026.
The entry is influenced by Houston’s known moniker as “The City With No Limits.” It aims to represent the LGBTQ+ community for its vibrant energy and resilience.
Based on Studio Ranch’s social media statements, the branding concept incorporates Bauhaus-inspired structures and Swiss-style precision. While being inspired by minimalism, the designs will also showcase bold colors and typography.
The central motif of the designs takes the shape of an explosion, meant to symbolize a strong presence. It also references how Houston is dubbed as “Space City,” giving the imagery of “blasting off, reaching for the stars.”
In his rationale for this concept, Ramas mentions that pride is both a protest and a call for celebration.
“Houston’s LGBTQ+ community doesn’t just exist quietly—it thrives loudly, vibrantly, and without limits,” he adds.
Ramas was an active student leader during his college years, having served for UST-CASA as the Public Relations Officer (2021-2022), Vice President for External Affairs (2022-2023), and President (2023-2024). During his senior year, he also served as the Deputy Speaker for the Faculty of Arts and Letters Board of Majors.
In 2023, his block’s broadcast program, “Tiger Score,” was nominated for Best Use of Video Graphics at the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Awards in New York City.
Tiger Score was a game show broadcast on UST Tiger TV as part of the block’s capstone project for their TV Production course.
Ramas was assigned as the Creative Director for his block’s production house, One Air, where he handled the branding and overall visuals of Tiger Score.
He affirms that this experience was part of the foundation for his current work approaches, continuing to inspire and inform his creative process.
“It pushed me to be more intentional with my design decisions, not just [with] making things look good, but thinking about how visuals can actually tell a story or represent a brand’s message,” Ramas said.
While he already had experience in design beforehand, this project brought a new challenge of managing a team to meet deadlines, as well as being able to produce a cohesive output.
Ultimately, the project honed his mindset towards designing with intention and discipline. This was also how he learned to create his recent project, which centered on identity and community.
“I learned to design with purpose — to think about how visuals can connect with people and represent something bigger than myself,” Ramas adds.
The Pride Houston 365 organized the logo competition as part of their ongoing conceptualization for Houston Pride 2026.
The selected concept will be used for the festival’s branding.
The voting is open to the public until November 7, 2025. You may vote for LIMITLESS by scanning the QR code above, or by accessing this form.
