CASAn-led prod Familea Films seal 4 awards, 7 nominations for ‘Kung Nag-aatubili’ at CinePanalo Film Fest

Beaming with film excellence anchored in CASAn pride

‘Kung Nag-aatubili’, a short film produced by Fourth-year Communication students of the University going by Familea Films, earned 4 awards and 7 nominations in Puregold’s Cinepanalo Film Festival awards on Saturday, March 16.

Directed by Communication senior Dizelle C. Masilungan, ‘Kung Nag-aatubili’ revolves around a Boys-love-themed concept, with Gelo (portrayed by David King Escio) and Kael (portrayed by Aiskhylos Akiyama) exploring their lives intertwined in college, casual encounters, and unexpected connections.


The awards ceremony hailed Masilungan as Best Director, in which he also received the Mowelfund Film Institute Scholarship, offering filmmaking workshops and seminars for their recipients. 


Further, Akiyama, who played Kael, received the Best Supporting Actor award, while Anton Acosta reaps the Best in Cinematography Award. 


Another major award claimed by the film was the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board’s (MTRCB) ‘Responsableng Paglikha’ (Responsible Creation) award, placing the film at the 3rd rank. 


Alongside their pertinent wins, ‘Kung Nag-aatubili’ also aced a total of seven nominations for the following categories:

  • Best Picture

  • Best Production Design, Neala Calinawan

  • Best Sound Design, Anton Acosta

  • Best Poster, Nathanael Monte

  • Best Original Song, Alinlangan by Anton Acosta

  • Best Musical Scoring, Anton Acosta

  • Best Actor, for David King Escio as ‘Gelo’


Also under the Familea Films production house are CASAns Angela Lamsen, Jedd Leaño, Jerui Capisonda, Lorenzo Prietos, Paolo Alejandrino, Raven Arellano, Rommel Sales, Rufino Aresta, Shemuel Lopez, and Veronica Caridad.

‘Kung Nag-aatubili’ competed alongside 24 other student-led entries from various universities in the Philippines, with Kurt Soberano's ‘Under a Piaya Moon’ hailed as Best Picture in the full-length category, while Ronjay Mendiola's ‘Last Shift’ clinched the Best Picture in the student short film category. 


The film screenings were made available to audiences in Gateway’s Cineplex 18 in Cubao, QC from March 15 to 17. New Dates of Screening Due to popular demand, the screening schedules for 'Kung Nag-aatubili' are further extended from March 20th to 26th at the Gateway Cineplex 1, Cinema 12 at the Gateway Mall 2, Araneta City-Cubao, Quezon City.
