The People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) invited the University of Santo Tomas Communication Arts Students Association (UST CASA) to the 10th Makatao Awards and Media Summit, an event that aims to promote media excellence, on December 6, 2022 at Lyceum of the Philippines in Intramuros, Manila.

PMAP’s 10th Makatao Awards and Media Summit included a round table discussion regarding the relevance and importance of the fourth estate, the media, as the informant of society and keeping the government in check as its fourth branch. Guest speakers for the event included well-known veteran journalists Ms. Luchi Cruz-Valdes from TV5, Mr. Joel Reyes Zobel from DZBB, and DOTr Undersecretary Dr. Cesar Chavez from DZRH.

In the forum, Ms. Valdes stressed that the media's reach of the government has been selective and overall reduced. This is a hindrance to the responsibility of journalists, whose jobs are to report the facts as accurately as possible regardless of who's in power at any given moment.

In promoting and protecting the media, according to Dr. Chavez, access to mainstream media is equal to transparency and accountability. Adding to that, Mr. Zobel says that the best thing to do is to check mainstream media and be critical; having a short course to become a media correspondent in college programs signifies professionalizing journalism as a practice.

At the latter part of the Media Summit, PMAP gave recognition to journalists who excelled in the field. Below is the list of awards given:

  • Best TV News Program Host - Cheryl Cosim (Frontline Pilipinas - TV5)
  • Best TV News Program - Frontline Pilipinas - TV5

Kevin Christian Crisolo

Hello everyone! Good morning, good afternoon, or good evening. As a 19 year old college student, communication is my passion. I am Kevin Christian S. Crisolo, but I’d like you to call me “KC”, a proud member of LGBTQ+ Community, from the land of brave and valiant men, Cavite! I am a goodhearted and sweet, expressive, and a risk taker type of person. You can catch up with me easily as 1,2,3. I am fond of mingling with others because I want to learn from their experiences and at the same time to have fun with a variety of people. And that is one of the many reasons why I have been an active member since elementary in our school publication and media. I can say that character leads my way.
