Film festivals give aspiring filmmakers, critics, and critical creatives in the industry a common ground to honor the craft of visual poetry and moving pictures. It provides a platform for emerging filmmakers to engage with the independent film community and demonstrate their abilities and technical proficiency.

The University of Santo Tomas Communication Arts Students' Association (UST-CASA) brings together student-produced short films through their respective official production houses to showcase the talents of fourth-year communication arts students, providing entry to its longest-running annual collegiate film competition, Sine Reel.

It is no secret that UST-CASA, the official student organization of communication majors, is the loudest and proudest student organization under the AB Faculty.

This year, UST-CASA Chronicle grew its partnership with One Click Media, one of the student production teams of the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the University, to hold an event to boost the morale of graduating students and broaden their horizons on broadcasting media.

The production house introduces Birthday Ko, Birthday ng Lahat, shedding light on toxic bloodline culture. Che-Che, the protagonist, obtained financial independence after growing up dirt-poor. On her 25th birthday, she decided to throw a party and invite her hostile extended family. While she expects to receive warm wishes and thoughtful presents, the party turns into complete mayhem as she gets humiliating insults and uncalled-for remarks. For the sake of belongingness, will she stand up for herself or let her family walk over her on her special day?

As the production house cooks something hot, they set into motion Room 305. Here we follow the ups and downs of Celine and Ara as they handle their introverted dorm lives. Celine felt the need to initiate conversations, bringing her to different places to get to know each other more and make things comfortable. One night, settling in a bar, Ara touched on a sensitive question that triggered Celine and her traumas—she breaks down and passes out. When she awakes, Ara is nowhere to be found. She finds a truth that will haunt her for the rest of her life and leave an empty gap in her heart that will never be filled.

With diversity as its central theme, Bright Screen Pictures presents So, Ano Nga? which explores the difference between characters who are on the brink of their graduation. The last hurdle to achieving the goal is to make a short film. With contrasting ideas and clashing personalities, problems keep rising, and there is no easy way out. How will the three navigate their perplexed relationship and come to a common ground?

Do not miss out on the fun, and stay tuned for a jam-packed lineup of participating films this Sine Reel 2022, as dates are yet to be announced. See you there, CASAns!
