READY YOUR LUNGS: IT'S ROARIENTATION TIME
Freshmen week wouldn't be complete without the popular ROARientation, featuring the exciting cheers of students welcoming the new academic year. Unlike last year, we will be hosting two ROARientations—a virtual one and a face-to-face one.
The virtual ROARientation will be held on August 5, 2022, Friday, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN. This will be spearheaded by the Communication Bureau so get ready to be enlightened about what UST has in store for you.
Likewise, a face-to-face ROARientation will also be held on August 9, 2022 at the Quadricentennial Pavilion. The event will include a lineup of entertaining acts ranging from an opening number, interactive games, live performances, and a batch dance, all incorporating Thomasian core values. This year's ROARientation aims to engage the incoming freshmen students with the university's historical and cultural significance beyond its status of excellence as an academic institution.
ROARientation 2022 will be held in two batches, one at 9:00 AM and another at 3:00 PM, and for those who won't be able to make it, don't worry as the whole event will be livestreamed on the Facebook page of UST Tiger TV and shared on the UST’s official Facebook page.
Moreover, incoming freshies may take part in the interactive segments of the event to earn the chance of winning exciting prizes. Tiger TV will also post instructions on one of their upcoming game segments, The Thomasian Challenge. In this segment, freshies will do TikTok challenges in exchange for amazing rewards. The winners will be announced on the day of the ROARientation. For further information, check out UST Tiger TV's Facebook post for more instructions.

Following the ROARientation, UST will continue its grand tradition of freshmen entering the Arch of the Centuries with their corresponding colleges or faculties. This is said to signify the beginning of their Thomasian journeys. As they embark on the start of their Thomasian lives, incoming freshmen will experience the euphoria of witnessing their first memories at the institution with the theme "A Walk to Treasure." An event truly to behold and treasure as they carry on this memory from the commencement of their academic journeys and onto the rest of their lives.
Much like the ROARientation, this event will be held in two batches. The first batch would begin at 11:00 AM and the second batch would begin at 5:00 PM. This will also be livestreamed on the official Facebook page of UST Tiger TV and shared subsequently by the official Facebook page of UST.
UNBOXING OF THE NEW UST BLOCK LETTERS AND TIGER STATUE
Recently, the UST block letters along with the tiger statue were removed from their positions in Plaza Mayor. This was done to signify a change in UST to “inaugurate a new era after the Covid-19 pandemic.”

It was revealed in an article that the new tiger was designed by a former UST College of Fine Arts and Design faculty member, Anthony Zamora, and would be unveiled on August 9, at exactly 6:00 PM.
Similar to the previous events, this will also be aired live on UST Tiger TV's Facebook page and shared by the official Facebook page of UST. So tune in for the grand reveal of the newly revamped version of the UST block letters and of the tiger statue.
TMN ON-GROUND: TREASURING THE THOMASIAN EXPERIENCE
To cap things off, Tiger Media Network is inviting incoming freshmen to experience and be introduced to the official student-bodied media platforms that UST has to offer—Tiger TV and Tiger Radio.
As such, TMN plans on setting up a total of four booths for a more interactive introduction to TMN's media platforms, each with its own set of unique gimmicks:
- Experience the role of being a talent for Tiger Radio as their Tiger Radio Booth will allow students to participate and speak inside the Tiger Radio booth while it airs live through their preferred audio-live streaming service, mixlr.com. Share your experiences with the hashtag #XPTMN if you enjoyed participating in Tiger Radio's booth.
- For those who wish to learn more about hosting, The Tiger TV Booth has you covered as they will challenge freshies to a spiel challenge. Not only that, if you think you have what it takes to become one of Tiger TV's talents, you can showcase your hosting skills and prowess by reading a prepared script that the booth has prepared in advance. If you enjoyed your experiences with Tiger TV's booth, use the hashtag #XPTMN to share your fun and memorable moments.
- TMN also offers a booth for tech-savvy people through their Website Booth. Within the booth are laptops/computers that freshies can access to launch the official TMN website. Be interactive as those who answer a short survey may get a chance to win Premium Merchandise and a possible sponsorship with Switch.
- Lastly, if you're in the mood for some cool photo-ops, TMN also offers an exclusive Photo Booth so that you can take home a photo souvenir from the face-to-face event. The photo will include scannable QR codes leading to the TMN website and Tiger TV page. Share your cool photos online with the hashtag #CapturedbyTMN.
TMN's booths will be set up on the Quadricentennial Pavilion.
With all that said, mark your calendars now and stand by on all the exciting happenings for this upcoming freshmen week. Stay safe, have fun, and welcome incoming freshies!
