UST begins the observance of the Lenten Season

To formally start the tradition of observing the 40-day Lenten Season, the University of Santo Tomas prepared and organized a series of events that starts today, February 22, 2023, marking the first day of Lent with Ash Wednesday. 

Today is also the Monthly Mass of the Faculty of Arts and Letters at 4:00 PM. This will be held in person at the UST Santisimo Rosario Parish Church. 

In accordance with the memo released by the UST Office of the Secretary-General addressing the Thomasian community, the university sets its schedule of the following events:


  • Ash Wednesday (February 22)
    • Masses with the imposition of ashes at the UST Chapel
    • Morning: 6:15 AM, 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 10:00 AM, and 11:00 AM 
    • Afternoon: 12:00 NN, 2:00 PM, and 4:00 PM
    • Evening: 7:00 PM

  • Kumpisalang Bayan (February 22)
    • 3:00 PM at Benavides Park
  • University Mass (February 22)
    • 5:00 PM at UST Plaza Mayor (in front of the Main Building)
  • Fridays of Lent (February 24, March 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31) 
    • 4:00 PM at Benavides Park. Stations of the cross will take place.
  • Lenten Recollection (March 30) 
    • 3:00 PM at the UST Chapel 
  • Holy Week (April 2-5)
    • Palm Sunday masses (April 2) 
      • Morning: 6:15 AM, 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM, and 10:00 AM
      • Afternoon: 4:00 PM and 5:30 PM
      • Evening: 7:00 PM
    • Anticipated Mass (April 1) 
      • Afternoon: 5:00 PM

      • Afternoon: 4:00 PM, 5:30 PM, and 7:00 PM
  • Sacrament of Reconciliation
    • Weekdays at the UST Chapel from 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM
  • Lighting of the Campus
    • UST landmarks shall be lit in violet, a color that symbolizes penance, repentance, and reconciliation from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on the following dates:
    • February 22, 23, and 24; March 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31
