Day 1 of Transcend 2022 took place today, April 6, as junior CASAns were treated with the knowledge and firsthand accounts of media industry professionals and CASAn seniors currently taking their own internships.
Transcend is an annually held event that aims to guide our 3rd-year CASAns in deciding and landing their desired internship programs, helping them set a clear path for their professional careers. This year’s Transcend is themed “Onward & Forward,” and is a 3-day event held from April 6 until April 8 via Zoom Meeting.
After starting formally with a prayer and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, CASA’s Public Relations Officer and the Officer-in-Charge of Transcend 2022, Mr. Ranch Ramas prefaced the event with his opening remarks. “...Transcend 2022: Forward and Onward visions its students to embody the values of the University—competence, compassion, and commitment—to prepare them for their future endeavors and path as an individual and as a professional.” Mr. Ramas said in his speech about the event.
First of the two speakers on Transcend’s Day 1 is PLDT Home’s VP and Head of Marketing Communications, Mr. Carlo Ople. In his talk and subsequent Question & Answer portion, Mr. Ople emphasized the importance of becoming entrepreneurs on top of doing what interests you. He cites his youtube channel as an example, sharing that he has made a business out of talking about things that he likes. Mr. Ople also encouraged the juniors to collaborate with others, as collaborations give the power of community.
As interludes between the two speakers, MusiCASA provided entertainment for the 3rd-year Communications crowd with their rendition of ‘Chill Lang’ originally by Mac Mafia.
The second speaker of the day was Ms. Aisha Quiambao, a senior Communications student and intern at Cut Print Podcast Network. Her talk revolved around her own experiences with her internship, as well the inclusion of women and LGBTQIA+ in the workplace. Ms. Quiambao also acknowledged the existence of highly competitive co-interns but reminded juniors to be kind to everyone and that they should always try and understand where others are coming from.
Both speakers were given Certificates of Appreciation after their respective talks for having taken the time to impart their knowledge and for patiently asking inquiries about their experiences and profession. The event concluded with the singing of the official UST Hymn.
Transcend 2022 Day 2 is set to take place again tomorrow with a new set of speakers, at the same time slot of 8:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. via Zoom.
